Mid-Day Report: Thunder Very Bad

November 20, 2008

We Know Who Is At The Bottom: There is a lot of discussion over who is the best team in the NBA, but after last night's 108-88 manhandling at home by the Los Angeles Clippers there is no doubt the worst team in the league is Kevin Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Los Angeles Clippers turned in exactly the sort of performance Oklahoma City coach P.J. Carlesimo feared. Carlesimo spoke before the game Wednesday night about the Clippers' talent and the challenges that come with meshing so many new players as they are trying to do. "There's no question what they're capable of doing," he said.

Mid-Day Report: NBA Attendance Down

November 18, 2008

Attendance Down: Is the bad economy having an effect on the dollars being generated by the NBA? After roughly 10 games for each team in the league that question can be answered with a resounding YES! All one has to do is look around them at a game or in the background on television to see it.

Morning Report: TMAC Injured Again?

November 18, 2008

Injured Again?: Houston Rockets' star Tracy McGrady left last night's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the third quarter with a left knee injury. McGrady told reporters that his knee "gave out" a little and was very sore. McGrady is expected to have an MRI this week and may miss games as a result. For Rockets fans this is just another in a long series of injuries and setbacks for the Rockets and for McGrady. There is no doubting Tracy's talent and ability; it's his durability that continues to be an issue. Fans point to McGrady's age (29) and say he should be in his prime, but that does not take into account that McGrady is into his 12th season in the NBA and even with injuries has logged more than 760 regular season games. More and more McGrady is looking like that snazzy used sports car that you can never seem to keep running. You spend countless amounts of time and money trying to keep it on the road, when the reality is, as good as that car may look and drive when it's running – your constantly late for work and you can never depend on it. McGrady is owed $19,614,000 for this season, and has a final year on his contract in 2009 worth $20,970,250. The Rockets are one of 18 teams that could have ample cap space in the Summer of 2010. Yao Ming has an Early Termination Option in 2010, with Shane Battier being the only guaranteed salary on the books in 2010 at $7.3 million.

Tracy McGrady feels like he's back to square one with a troublesome left knee that gave out on him again. At least his Houston Rockets seem able to pick up the slack if he's going to be sidelined. Luis Scola scored 23 points, Yao Ming added 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Houston made a second-half surge without its injured seven-time All-Star to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 100-89 on Monday...

Mason, a reserve averaging 8.4 points and 3.9 rebounds, said Monday night that he hurt the elbow in the Thunder's third game of the season against Minnesota and it flared up worse after their game Friday against the New York Knicks.

The Philadelphia 76ers expended quite a bit of energy in overcoming a 26-point deficit in their victory at Indiana. Yet they still had plenty of pep one night later.
